Here we are eighty one days away from Christmas and the stores are filled with everything from Halloween decor to Christmas decor. I don’t know about you, but my eyes light up like the night sky with a full moon when I see so much decor. It’s not that I NEED anything per say, it’s more about the fact that I LOVE holidays. I love holidays more now than when I was a kid. I was from a divorced family, so nothing was ever truly the normal way. Most people say that it brings twice the holidays, but for me it was total opposite. I hated the going back and forth with families. So when I had kids I decided we would make a huge effort to make sure they were as fun and go lucky as possible. Now of course it isn’t always easy because it leaves us with so many people wanting us to visit for the holidays. However this year the hubby and I decided we would be the ones to host our own little holidays. Yippee! With that being said, decorations are not always on the cheap.
I was determined to have our Halloween looking good, especially since our house is on the Main Street in our little town. (Yes, we loved it and no we don’t miss the city life!) So Saturday morning, the family and I took off to Michael’s, Family Dollar and Dollar General in search of icky sticky scary decor.
First stop was Michael’s, who was having amazing Door Buster deals with stackable coupons. Can you say score for us! I found the lights that look like candy corn (my favorite part of Halloween) on sale for half off. Yessss. I was so excited to grab one, I couldn’t pass it up. I bought a scarecrow for half off, only $5, but the neighborhood dog killed it π¦
Then came Family Dollar… I’m skeptical when I go into the cheaper stores because you never know what it is you’ll find. Once we were inside, the boys quickly found flying bats that I knew would be coming home with us. But soon after, I found the mother load of spider webbing that I’d ever seen….FOR ONLY $1! Of course, it’s used one time once a year and I don’t want to spend loads on it. So I was naturally attracted to it and grabbed a few bags. I’ll have to go back for more soon, this Texas weather has gushing winds one day and the sun beaming the next.
Lastly came Dollar General… I know I said I was skeptical about these cheaper stores, but this one ranks in my least favorite. Primarily because every single time I go to the one next to my house, the prices are always wrong and I end up spending way too much in a dollar store setting. Saturday was different. Saturday I knew that I wasn’t trying to spend a lot of money and boom, everything I wanted I saw. I picked up a few wind sockets? I think that would be what they are called. They blow in the wind hehe. I found an outdoor rug for only $5! I was even able to find window clings for our screen door that I totally forgot about.
I know it doesn’t sound like much, but it was more than enough and I even was able to bring the kids in to help with everything, which made it all the funner. I can’t wait to see how the next holiday comes up. What kind of things do you do to decorate outdoors? I still have to do the inside, so I’d love to hear about how your insides get all spooked up π
HAPPY HALLOWEEN MONTH?! π
