Strawberry Shortcake Kabobs

So, remember in my previous posts I talked about everyone going on these crazy new year’s resolutions? Everyone that was at my dad’s this weekend totally broke theirs! I totally threw down on the desserts for the Texan’s ONE AND ONLY playoff game. πŸ˜‰

I was perusing on Pinterest for something sweet , but not over sweet. Does that sound silly, probably, but I’m not a huge sweets fan. That’s when I came across different ways to make kabobs, or as I like to call them Heaven on a Stick. Let’s face it if everything was thrown on a stick and would not make a huge mess we’d be good to go.

There were a variety of smores and brownies that I could’ve done, but when I looked at the sales ad I noticed that the strawberries were on sale at Kroger, score. So knew I’d want to incorporate them somehow.

That’s when I found Strawberry Shortcake kabobs. They were made different ways, I decided to try them out on my own.

First let’s start with what I needed:
I used 2 cartons of strawberries, Sara Lee frozen pound cake (the family size), some bamboo skewers and Kroger brand milk chocolate chips.

With that being said, the rest is a piece of cake, just semi time consuming. I started by rinsing and slicing the strawberries in halves. Then put them to the side. Secondly, heat up the frozen cake for about 10 seconds, please follow the instructions as to make sure you aren’t microwaving aluminum. Once the pound cake is thawed and ready to go slice it into pieces. I did about 3×3 (not exact but around that). After everything is prepped, start sticking the strawberries and cake on the kabob. I did strawberries first on a few then switched it out. Once I used everything, I put them aside. Lastly, I put 2 cups of chocolate chips and a spoonful of shortening in a microwavable bowl. I microwaved the chocolate for 2 minutes, taking out the bowl and stirring every 30 seconds. This will keep the chocolate from burning. After it is melted pour as evenly as possible over the kabobs. It won’t be perfect. And depending how chocolatey you like you can always add more.

Tadaaaa!!! You’ve got a to go dessert. It seems easier said than done though hehe So good luck and I’d love to see your pictures and results πŸ™‚
